Today is one of the most exciting posts of the year, guys! At least, I am quite excited to be posting this – because a brand-new author has released her debut story for the world to read! Read on if you would like to hear my thoughts on this short story…
Ella has narrowly escaped a fatal marriage once, but she plans to never be caught in that web again. It’s been easy to evade the young men of her church so far, but Joe is different.
Can Ella keep avoiding the ever persistent Joe, especially when she knows her own heart is pulled toward him? Can she trust Joe and more importantly, can she trust God? Is she willing to face her fears or will she continue to run, breaking more hearts than one?
About the Author
Hannah Foster was born and raised in North Carolina where she was homeschooled with her eight siblings. She attended college in Minnesota where she got her bachelor’s degree in literature, learned to survive temperatures of below zero, and became Mrs. Foster. From a young age, Hannah has loved reading. Throughout her teen years, she also enjoyed journaling and blogging, but it wasn’t till her mid-twenties that she discovered her love for penning her own stories. Hannah’s desire is that the words she writes would bring hope and light in a dark world. Besides reading and writing, she also enjoys baking, watercolor painting, and all things vintage.
This story was just the average sweet, clean, Christian romance story. I didn’t feel like there were really any major plot twists or surprises, but then again who ever said it was supposed to have those? Nobody. The dance scene was my favorite scene, and I liked the ending, though I did wish the story was a bit longer…
Ella was so sweet, but she definitely had struggles with trusting. She had been hurt by a previous relationship (no details were given) and didn’t want to risk it again. And Joe was such a nice guy! I love how much he loved Ella – even with her faults and flaws. His persistence was something truly admirable.
The writing style was wonderful! I love how Hannah was able to draw the reader into the story by sharing the thoughts and feelings of the characters in such a masterful way. I’ve rarely read a story that made me connect so completely with the characters.
Okay, now for the romance part… so obviously since it’s a romance story there is some romance in it – more like it’s the main storyline. Generally, I avoid romance stories, but this one was sweet, clean, and short. There was no kissing, but there were a few scenes with a girl and guy alone together. They hugged once, held hands a little, and danced the Virginia Reel together. There was nothing inappropriate.
While the romance was definitely in the spotlight, it was also a story about trusting the future to God. Ella has been hurt before, and she struggles with trusting her future to God. And Joe’s persistent love reminded me of God’s love for us. No matter how much we try to run from God, He is always there watching over us, loving us, caring for us.
Overall, it was a sweet, short, romantic Christian story, and I am glad I read it. It was totally worth the 99¢ I got it for. Hannah is a wonderful writer, so I highly suggest checking out her stories.
Do you enjoy clean, romantic stories? What reminds you most of God’s love? Do you plan on reading Ella Pursued?
