Tonight I Write: A Poem

Hey, y’all!

Have you noticed that autumn is here? Are the trees turning colors, the fields ripening for harvest, the air growing crisper and cooler? Maybe it’s just me (actually, I know it isn’t just me. XD), but this new season has me excited.

Anyway, that’s not what this post is supposed to be about (even though I could totally do an I-love-fall rant), so let’s move on with this post now, shall we?

Today I have another poem for you. 🙂 (As if you couldn’t tell from the title!) This was a fun one I wrote late one night when I was too awake to fall asleep. And I suppose it conveyed my feelings at that time rather clearly, despite the fact that I went to bed right after finishing it.

Anyway, here it is:

Tonight I Write

by Natalie Claire

I ought to snatch a bit of rest.
I can’t stay up all night.
The sky is darker than a dungeon,
Purged of the slightest light.

If I sit up, I’ll be fatigued.
It really isn’t right.
I ought to totter off to bed.
But I won’t tonight.

Tonight the moon is hidden;
The stars are out of sight.
There couldn’t be a better chance,
To sit up all night and write.

No one to rebuke me,
Nor to send me off to bed.
Not when I’ve so many muses,
Dancing in my head!

You may have the morrow
But I will take tonight,
A chance to party with my thoughts,
And oh! To write all night.

So I actually DON’T stay up all night writing. I don’t stay up all night, period! I mean, I’m very much a night owl, but I still like to get my 40 winks. *insert 40 winking emojis just for laughs*

Though I have been know to stay up late, accomplishing an enormous amount of writing, after all my distractions have drifted off to bed…

Have you ever stayed up ALL night? Do you write best at night? Do you find it hard to write when there are other people around?

Wishing you a lovely life!

Natalie Claire – who is enjoying the beauty and blessings of Autumn to the fullest! 🍂
